Ranking Member Cassidy Calls Out Biden’s ‘Walkaround’ Rule Prioritizing Union Agenda over Worker Safety

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, called out the Department of Labor's (DOL) final rule that allows outside union officials to inject themselves into non-unionized workplaces by participating in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) workplace inspections. Previously, Cassidy raised serious concerns that this policy politicizes the enforcement of worker safety laws and calls into question DOL's impartiality between unions and business.

"OSHA inspections are crucial to protect workers' safety and should never be co-opted to promote a political agenda," said Dr. Cassidy. "The union has a vested interest in harassing a non-union employer. Giving them the power to influence an inspection is a potential weapon against a workplace that has chosen to be non-union. This is wrong."
