Happily Never After? ‘I am Married…But!’ Unveils the Realities of Marriage in Main Trailer

Launching on Valentine's Day (February 14), Chinese-language romantic comedy series I am Married…But! challenges the classic "happily ever after" adage by showcasing the realities of married life, all with a lighthearted and comedic touch. Unveiled today, the main trailer offers a glimpse into how the series explores real-life struggles spouses face in maintaining their marriage.

The story opens with a familiar and humorous fairytale meet-cute between Lin I-ling (Alice Ko) and Zeng Xue-you (Jasper Liu), sparking the beginning of their relationship. However, their romantic start takes a sharp turn as married life turns I-ling into a housekeeper. Endless chores, compounded by her husband's deafening snores and over-reliance on his mother, drive I-ling to her limits, shattering the illusion of a picture-perfect romance.

Physically and mentally exhausted, I-ling meets a handsome and charming pharmacist, Liu Wen-chieh (Tseng Jing-hua), whose gentle demeanor and alluring voice set her heart aflutter. I-ling also reconnects with her college boyfriend turned colleague, Zhang Ren-wei (Fu Meng-po), who still harbors feelings for her. Amid the complexities of marriage, these men entangle I-ling's life, threatening her fidelity.

To top things off, the trailer also reveals Xue-you's encounter with Chen Hsiao-lu, a seemingly harmless colleague who is a single mother. Her vulnerability stirs the protective instinct of those around her, and Xue-you's attention begins to stir something in Hsiao-lu's heart.

Director Li Nien-hsiu describes the series as a "woke" romantic series examining the realities of married life. "We are skipping the honeymoon phase and diving straight into married life to explore whether the princess, upon discovering that her prince is actually a mama's boy and their castle essentially a prison, can still find reasons to love him amid their love-hate relationship," she explains. Li hopes that this lighthearted comedy series will bring joy and accompany viewers through their everyday lives.

Producer Vita Huang adds, "Just like the title suggests, married life is full of 'buts' and the best stories are often found in the twists and turns. Many friends who have seen snippets of the series even suspected that we installed surveillance cameras in their homes. This is a testament to the series' authentic storytelling."
