Export Controls consultation opens - August 2022

Ministry Statements & Speeches: 11 August 2022

Consultation is now open on proposed enhancements to Aotearoa New Zealand's Export Controls regime, and will run from 11 August until 14 September 2022.

The Export Controls regime controls the export of strategic and certain other military end-use goods and technology, in line with Aotearoa New Zealand's domestic and international obligations and commitments.

We invite feedback on proposals for three key sections of the Export Controls operational framework. These are:

  • The adoption of a Purpose Statement to provide clarity on what the Export Controls regime aims to achieve and why.
  • Assessment Criteria which form the basis for the assessment of the risks posed by the export of the goods.
  • An explicit Transparency Approach for the Export Controls regime.

Further information on the proposals to enhance Export Controls regime operations can be found on the MFAT website.
