Press Release
LOS ANGELES - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) honored the life of Los Angeles County's famous mountain lion, P-22, and presented a $2.5 million check for the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing at P-22's Celebration of Life event.

P-22 was the most famous mountain lion that was tracked through the National Park Service's Santa Monica Mountains puma tracking program. In 2012, P-22 crossed the 405 and the 101 to settle in Griffith Park and helped inspire efforts to build the Wallace Annenberg Wildlife Crossing at Liberty Canyon in Agoura Hills. In FY22, Congressman Lieu secured $2.5 million for the wildlife crossing, which will help animals safely traverse the freeway.

"Since we first saw him in 2012, P-22 captured the imagination of Los Angeles County, and the greater world. His plight and death underscore the challenges of cohabitating with the wildlife in our community. P-22's legacy has inspired widespread interest in wildlife conservation and a desire to ensure wild animals can safely travel between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa Susana Mountains.

"P-22 inspired the creation of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, which will save the lives of mountain lions and many other species by giving them a safe crossing over the 101 Freeway. I fought to secure federal funding for the wildlife crossing and I am pleased that we can honor P-22's legacy by providing $2.5 million for the Wallace Annenberg Wildlife Crossing."
