Inflation in Russian regions changes diversely in December

As compared to November, the annual growth of food prices decelerated in all federal districts, primarily owing to prices for animal products. A good harvest promoted a further expansion of the output of meat products and a continuing slowdown in the growth in companies' costs. Higher cucumber and tomato prices significantly pushed up the level of prices in all federal districts, except the Far Eastern Federal District.

The annual growth of non-food prices declined in all macro-regions, predominantly owing to a slower rise in car and motor fuel prices. In contrast, the annual increase in service prices sped up in all federal districts, which pushed up inflation in general in a number of regions. In the first place, this was because the indexation of utility rates was rescheduled from July 2023 to December 2022.

More details on inflation in each Russian region are available in the information and analytical materials published on the Bank of Russia website.
