Police apprehend four illegal miners in Atok, mining equipment seized

POLOKWANE - Members of SAPS Sekhukhune District Task Team arrested four suspects aged between 25 and 43 for illegal mining during a disruptive operation at Atok under Apel Policing area, on Friday, 18 August 2025 at around 12:00.

Police arrived at the old mining shaft at Atok and found a group of people in the act of illegal mining. As Police were approaching the suspects, the suspects fled in different directions.

Police managed to arrest four suspects for illegal mining. The Police confiscated eight generators, 11 jackhammers and one water pump.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for their dedication in dealing with illegal mining as it is still a challenge in our Province.

The suspects will soon appear before Sekhukhune Magistrate's Court.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
