Frederick Police Announces Upcoming Frederick Running Festival

The Frederick Police Department is pleased to announce the upcoming Frederick Running Festival, scheduled for Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5, 2024. This annual event draws over 4,000 participants, including runners, their families, and spectators from across the state, to our city.

The festival will commence at the Frederick Fairgrounds, featuring a Kids Fun Run on Saturday, May 4, at 5 p.m., followed by the Twilight 5K race at 6 p.m. On Sunday, May 5, the main event, the Frederick Half Marathon and Team Relay, will start at 7 a.m. with a staggered start. The race will begin and end at the Frederick Fairgrounds, with the Team Relay exchange point located at Hood College.

To ensure participant and spectator safety, the Frederick Police Department will provide road closure assistance for the Half Marathon, implementing rolling road closures starting at 6 a.m. and continue throughout the marathon. The first closure will occur at E. Patrick Street and Franklin Street. Motorists should anticipate significant traffic delays in the area and plan alternate routes accordingly. Access through closures will not be possible until runners have passed, and officers deem it safe to reopen the roads. We encourage residents to review the race route provided here.

As always, we urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Throughout the festival, there will be a noticeable police presence to ensure the safety and security of all attendees.

The Frederick Police Department looks forward to another successful Frederick Running Festival and extends our best wishes to all participants. For further details about the event, please visit their website at frederickrunfest.com.
