The City of Lake Forest Adopts a Marine Corps Unit

The City assumed the 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) under its wing at the May 17, 2022, City Council meeting.

It has been nine years since the City adopted a United States Marine Corps (USMC) unit. The 1st Law Enforcement Battalion was under the City's support until its disbandment in 2020.

The 1st ANGLICO consists of 163 members and specializes in combined arms, fire support, and communications capabilities regarding military operations. The unit was activated in March 1951 and based in Camp Pendleton.

The adoption program will allow the City to support the USMC unit members and their families on an ongoing basis, both when stationed at Camp Pendleton or deployed abroad. The 1st ANGLICO will participate in Lake Forest special events, senior dances, and public ceremonies.

Many local entities have adopted US Marine Corps units, including the Cities of Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, and Rancho Santa Margarita. City support efforts are managed primarily by a community volunteer committee.

The Lake Forest US Marine Corps Support Committee helps strengthen the ties between the members of the adopted unit and the residents, organizations, and businesses of Lake Forest through activities and fundraising.

Support activities and interactions with 1st ANGLICO will be similar to the City's former unit - keeping staff time and financial costs minimal. The City of Lake Forest is honored to once again support a Marine Corps unit.
