NAPERVILLE, Ill. - At 5:43 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a notification about an activated fire alarm in a multifamily building located in the 1600 block of Ishnala Drive. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a dual response assignment consisting of one engine and one squad. At 5:47 a.m., the first unit arrived and encountered moderate smoke on the third floor. They immediately upgraded the alarm, calling for an additional eight pieces of fire apparatus, and began stretching hose lines.

Crews discovered a large volume of fire in unit 204. Fire companies began an interior attack to extinguish the fire while coordinating the evacuation of the residents. At 5:59 a.m., the fire was deemed under control. Crews remained on the scene another 60 minutes extinguishing hot spots and assisting residents. The fire was contained to unit 204 and the attic space directly above the unit.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police and Electric departments. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. The occupant of the unit was not at home at the time of the fire.
