Rep. Frankel Votes on Bills Addressing Baby Formula Shortage

Washington DC - Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after voting on two bills to address the baby formula shortage.

"As a grandmother, I understand the importance of keeping our babies well-nourished and content," said Rep. Frankel. "That's why I joined House Democrats to take action to ensure parents and guardians can find safe, affordable formula on their grocery store shelves."

The Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act provides $28 million in emergency funding to give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the resources it needs to address the infant formula shortage. The Access to Baby Formula Act of 2022 improves access to safe formula products for participants in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Both bills passed the House and now head to the Senate.

The Biden-Harris Administration has been working to ensure that infant formula is safe and available for families across the country following Abbott Nutrition's voluntary recall of certain powdered infant formulas, including invoking the Defense Production Act to direct additional resources to manufacturers in order to address the current shortage.
