On 10 April 2024, a media release from Minister John Carey was published regarding amendments to Residential Design Codes (R-Codes). These changes are aimed at boosting housing supply by removing minimum lot size requirements for an ancillary dwelling, commonly known as a granny flat.
Please keep in mind that granny flats will still need to meet setback requirements, must not exceed 70 square metres, and must obtain a building permit.Residential property owners should contact the Shire for further information about building an ancillary dwelling.
It is important to note that a Building Permit Application must have been submitted and approved,with a Permit issued to the responsible person, prior to the construction of the granny flat.
