LANGHORNE, PA- On a rainy Saturday night in February the Highlanders took to the court against the Defenders of Clarks Summit in one of the final CSAC matchups for both teams. The Highlanders got the better of this contest, toppling the Defenders by a final score of 79-54.
Cairn University came out of the gates with a purpose, starting the game with an 11-0 run. Clarks Summit promptly burned a timeout, and battled back with an 8-2 run of their own to cut the Highlanders lead to 5 with 14:19 left in the first half. From that point on, the Highlanders held the lead and didn't look back, as they went on another 11-0 run to extend their lead to 16 midway through the first half. The Highlanders went into the halftime break leading 42-21.
The second half was much of the same for the Highlanders, as they continued with their stifling man-to-man defense and efficient offense to keep the Defenders at bay. The Defenders struggled to get on track, as outside of Will Smoot they could not find any consistent scoring. The Highlanders kept up their defensive intensity, forcing 16 Clarks Summit turnovers and completing the 79-54 victory.
The Highlanders had several different scoring options in this game, as Antoine Nunnally led the way with 17 points on 7-9 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds to notch another double-double. Malachi Hall had one of his most consistent days from the field this season, tallying 16 points on 8-9 shooting while also dishing out 9 assists. Last but not least, Richard Rosas had a big game off the bench, reaching double figures with 10 points on a perfect 4-4 from the field.
The Highlanders will be back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Delaware County to take on the Ravens of Rosemont College. Tip off scheduled for 8:00 PM.
