GENTEXT/REMARKS/ 1. Purpose. This message announces the eligibility criteria and administrative instructions for applying to the Calendar Year 2024 (CY24) USMC Astronaut Candidate Screening Panel. The panel will convene in April 2024 to screen interested Marines and provide favorable endorsements to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Marines that receive favorable endorsement from the service will compete with other military and civilian applicants for selection to the NASA Astronaut Candidate Program.

2. Application process
2.a. Step 1: NLT 02 April 2024, interested Active Component (AC), Active Reserve (AR), and Reserve Component (RC) Marines shall submit applications directly to NASA through the Office of Personnel Management's USAJOBS website: https://www.usajobs.gov/job/779261100 which contains complete eligibility criteria and application instructions.
2.b. Step 2: NLT 05 April 2024, interested Marines shall notify MMOA-3 and their PMOS monitor (for AC and AR applicants) of their desire to apply to the Astronaut Selection Panel via email and must attach the NASA email confirmation stating that their application was successfully received. AR and other RC Marines should include a copy of their current Reserve Qualification Summary (RQS) with their correspondence. No further documentation is required for AC applicants. MMOA and RAM will coordinate regarding AR and RC applicants as required. MMOA-3's email address is: [email protected]
3. Eligibility
3.a. Eligibility criteria
3.a.1. Active duty Marines must have a minimum of five years of active service by August 2024.
3.a.2. RC Marines may apply to USAJOBS in a uniformed capacity and, if subsequently selected by this panel, must be willing to be appointed or transferred to the active component in accordance with the references. This MARADMIN does not preclude eligible RC Marines from applying via USAJOBS in a civilian capacity.
3.a.3. Must have a master's degree in a STEM field, including engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science, or mathematics from an accredited institution. This requirement can also be met in the following ways:
3.a.3.a. Two years of work towards a doctoral program in a related STEM field.
3.a.3.b. Completed Doctor of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, or related medical degree.
3.a.3.c. Completion (or current enrollment that will result in completion by June 2025) of a nationally recognized test pilot school program.
3.a.4. Must have a minimum of three years of related professional experience obtained after degree completion or 1000 pilot-in-command hours with at least 850 of those hours in high performance jet aircraft for pilots.
3.a.5. Must be able to successfully complete the NASA long-duration flight astronaut physical.
3.a.6. Please refer to the USAJOBS vacancy announcement website per paragraph 2.a. for full eligibility requirements and any other NASA-required qualifications for all sub-disciplines including the Medical Doctor, Biological and Medical Science, Physical Science, and Engineering and Operations disciplines.
3.b. Ineligibility criteria
3.b.1. Marines passed for promotion.
3.b.2. Marines with approved resignations or retirements.
3.b.3. Marines who will not have completed required utilization tours by 31 July 2025.
4. Marine Corps selection process
4.a. The CY24 Astronaut Candidate Selection Panel at Manpower Management (MM) will review the records of Marine Corps applicants and will favorably endorse those officers determined to be best and fully qualified for further screening by NASA. There is no quota for favorable endorsements, and selection by the Marine Corps panel does not guarantee selection by NASA.
4.b. MM will directly contact applicants with the results of the selection panel. MM will favorably endorse selected Marines for further screening by NASA.
4.c. NASA's further screening may include interviews and in-person screening at the Johnson Space Center.
4.d. NASA will announce its final selections in June 2025 and MM will publish a MARADMIN to announce any USMC selections.
