“I immediately felt good when practicing on Centre Court”

"I immediately felt good when practicing on Centre Court"

Last year, Tatjana Maria appeared for the first time at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix after an 11-year absence. The 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist would like to top the performance this time around.

This is what the 36-year-old and German No. 1 had to say about...

...her preparations and expectations ahead of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix:
"Despite the challenging jetlag which has been exacerbated by our late arrival after the Billie Jean King Cup, I basically feel good and am optimistic. We all do our best to be in shape for the upcoming matches and be well-prepared."

...the Billie Jean King Cup week in Brazil:
"The week with the Porsche Team Germany in Brazil was brilliant. It was a lot of fun and the atmosphere was fantastic all the time. Despite the extremely loud support for our opponents, it was great playing in front of such an enthusiastic crowd. It also increased the intensity and pleasure."

...adjusting to the various surfaces:
"Playing on a variety of surfaces requires differing styles of play. Whilst I virtually only hit slices on grass, on clay, I have to add far more spin and variation to my game. The aim is finding a good mix of my typical slice and other shots to be effective and challenge my opponents."

...her impressions of the court conditions in the Porsche Arena:
"The court here in Stuttgart feels similar to the one last year and offers good conditions. It is a pleasant change to the less than ideal ones we had in São Paulo. I immediately felt good when practicing on Centre Court and am looking forward to playing here."

...being accompanied by her family during the tournament in Stuttgart:
"It's lovely having my family with me. It gives me big support and motivation. My daughter Charlotte and my husband are already here and the rest my family will arrive in the next few days."

...the return of the Porsche Brand Ambassador Angelique Kerber to the tour after giving birth:
"Angie is full of energy when practicing and gives the impression of being very determined. Even though she needs a little more time, she is well-prepared and has already played a few matches to get back to her competition mode."
