First "Tax Day Baby" Born at Memorial Health University Medical Center Receives $1,529 for College

SAVANNAH, GA - For the 11th year, Memorial Health University Medical Center and the state of Georgia's Path2College 529 Plan partnered to award the first "Tax Day Baby" born at the hospital with a college savings contribution. Baby Liam was recognized as the first baby born on April 15, and he was awarded a $1,529 contribution to his Path2College 529 Plan.

"Less than 24 hours of being born, and already on his way to success," said Chelsea Bowen, Liam's mom.

The Tax Day Baby partnership was established to raise awareness about the importance of saving for college and financial planning, along with the advantages of saving in the Path2College 529 Plan.

"We're excited to partner with the Path2College 529 plan to set Liam on a course toward a college education," said Donna Darnell, director of women's services at Memorial Health. "Our goal is to give families the best start, and now he has a little something extra to begin his journey.

"We are excited to help Liam jump-start his college savings with this contribution to his Path2College 529 Plan," said Georgia Student Finance Commission President Lynne Riley. "These savings may be used for qualified higher education expenses such as tuition, room and board, books, supplies and more."
