Faculty honored during awards reception

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Shepherd University honored its outstanding faculty for 2023-2024 during an awards reception on April 29. The awards celebrate faculty excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels for scholarship, work in the classroom and advising students, and impact in the community.

  • Outstanding Scholar Award, Dr. Jacquelyn Cole, associate professor of chemistry
  • Outstanding Advisor Award, Dr. Jason Allen, assistant professor of education
  • Outstanding Teacher Award, Dr. Haley Albiright, assistant professor of chemistry
  • Mentzer Award for Inspirational Teaching, Dr. Sylvia Bailey Shurbutt, professor of English
  • Storer College Faculty Award, Dr. Betty Ellzey, professor of English
  • Douglas C. Smith Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award, Dr. Benjamin Bankhurst, associate professor of history
  • Outstanding Adjunct-Instruction Award, Michael Mendez, adjunct art professor
  • Outstanding Adjunct-Commitment to the Community, Dr. Jennifer Flora, adjunct professor of business administration

West Virginia Professor of the Year finalist Dr. James Broomall, associate professor of history, was also honored during the event.
