MPD Investigating Shooting Leaving One Dead, Two Injured in Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that left one person dead and two injured.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers responded to the 3400 block of Stanton Road SE for the report of sounds of gunshots. A short time later, officers were notified of three victims, all with gunshot wounds, seeking treatment at a local hospital. An adult male and a juvenile male were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The third victim died from his injuries on Thursday, March 28, 2024. He has been identified as 26-year-old Amaru Cureton, of Southeast, D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099.
