U23s host league leaders Regensburg at the Rote Erde

League leaders SSV Jahn Regensburg will be the visitors to the Rote Erde stadium on Wednesday evening (kick-off 19:00 CET). BVB coach Jan Zimmermann is looking forward to a gripping clash: "We will have to push ourselves to the limit in all areas."

The BVB U23s' overall record against Regensburg is negative, with two wins, one draw and four defeats. The reverse fixture in Regensburg ended 0-0, but BVB can take solace in the fact that they have won twice at home in the past and have a positive goal difference of eight scored and three conceded in these games.

The team from the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria, who were relegated from the Bundesliga 2 last season, have been coached by Joe Enochs since Matchday 32 of last season. Although he was unable to save them from the drop, his Regensburg side are having a great season in the 3. Liga and currently sit atop the table, three points clear of hotly-tipped Dynamo Dresden. "Any team who have put together such a good run of results and picked up so many points deserves to be at the top," said BVB coach Jan Zimmermann in praise of the visitors.

Regensburg's top scorer is Noah Ganaus, who has seven goals to his name so far this season. The Red & Whites also have the fourth-best scorer in the league in Dominik Kother (six goals, eight assists). Coach Joe Enochs will have to make do without left winger Oscar Schönfelder in Dortmund due to a yellow-card suspension.

BVB coach Jan Zimmermann expects "a very intense game against an opposition who are very strong runners, will fight hard, play aggressively and keep a tight shape." BVB are still without Felix Irorere, Jonah Husseck, Paul Besong and Bjarne Pudel. Franz Pfanne, who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Freiburg, will also have to sit this one out. Patrick Göbel is available again after serving his one-game suspension.
