The City of Grande Prairie resumes its Traffic Signal Maintenance Program January 14 to ensure the safety and reliability of traffic signals throughout the city.

This project involves inspecting and upgrading traffic signal infrastructure at select intersections.

Scheduled work locations include:

  • 108 Avenue and 100 Street
  • 68 Avenue and 108 Street
  • 98 Avenue and 100 Street

In the spring, work will continue at the following intersections, tentatively set to begin in May:

  • 97 Avenue and 100 Street
  • 116 Avenue and 102 Street

During the project, there will be brief periods when signals are temporarily offline while crews transition from old to new infrastructure. These switchovers are planned during off-peak hours to minimize disruption. Drivers are encouraged to proceed with caution and adhere to all construction signage and temporary traffic controls.

Traffic will remain open in all directions; however, lane closures and reduced speeds should be expected in active construction zones.

"This work is essential in maintaining traffic flow and ensuring the safety of drivers and pedestrians in Grande Prairie," said Capital Construction Supervisor Mark Hoseasson. "We thank residents for their patience and understanding as we complete these necessary upgrades."
