Improving cycling infrastructure across the city

We've been improving facilities for cyclists across Brighton & Hove in the last couple of months.

The number of cycle hangars across Brighton & Hove has now crossed the 100 mark.

40 more hangars have been installed across the city with the 100th hangar installed on Atlingworth Street in Kemptown in the last couple of weeks.

When the new installations complete, it brings the total number to over 110, providing residents with safe and secure parking for more than 650 bikes.

By next spring, there will be 150 hangars providing 900 spaces . Members of the council's Transport and Sustainability committee are set to be told about plans to consult on more locations in the new year when they meet next month.

In July, members also approved exploring options to bring the management and maintenance of the cycle hangar scheme in house in the future, with the council receiving income directly from the hangar rentals.

Public cycle stands

As well as residents' cycle hangars, we've also been installing new cycle stands across the city.

More than 50 new stands have been installed at 18 different locations:

Growing active travel infrastructure

Councillor Trevor Muten, chair of the Transport and Sustainability committee said: "We know there's a huge demand for cycle parking in the city, especially for those residents who don't have secure outdoor spaces to store their bikes.

"We're providing them with more cycle hangars and new stands for people to park their bikes,

"Work will begin soon on cycle and pedestrian improvements to the A23 and we're working very hard on a better plan for a higher standard bi-directional cycle lane along Hove seafront that'sbetter for pedestrians, access and all who travel along this route.

"All of which shows our commitment to improving cycling infrastructure and active travel across Brighton & Hove."
