Police are urging all NSW motorists to drive safely this Easter long weekend after two people died on Sydney roads yesterday.
The Easter Operation 2024 began at 12.01am yesterday (Thursday 28 March 2024) and will see a high-visibility policing presence on the state's roads.
Two men died on Sydney roads during day one of the operation; a 20-year-old man in Kensington, while an 80-year-old man died in a crash at Campbelltown.
While the traffic operation has just begun police have already detected 815 drivers speeding, 28 drivers driving under the influence of alcohol and 116 drivers under the influence of illicit drugs.
"It's not good enough" Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden, Commander of Traffic and Highway Patrol said.
"Two tragic deaths on our roads and almost a thousand drivers blatantly disobeying road rules it not good enough".
"I want to once again urge drivers to be safe this long weekend and not put other drivers at risk."
