On Friday, May 25, the UAA Incident Management Team (IMT) identified the potential for an ammonia leak within the Ice Plant system behind the Avis Alaska Sports Complex (AASC). Currently the university is working with community partners, the Anchorage Fire Department and The National Guard's 103rd Civil Support to monitor the Ice Plant's system remotely.

The AASC, Student Union, General Support Services and Enrollment Services, and the Spine, west and east leading into the affected buildings, are closed until further notice.

UAA has notified its U-MED partners, Providence Alaska, Alaska Pacific University, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and residents of Mallard Lane of the issue.

IMT and AFD have not identified a public health risk at this time and are actively responding to the situation to ensure the safety of the community.
