Helping Reduce Abrasion at Sawang Laut Beach, PT Timah Tbk Socializes Plan to Install Abrasion Barriers to Residents

SAWANG -- PT Timah Tbk will install abrasion barriers around 150 meters of Sawang Beach to help prevent abrasion.

Before installing the abrasion barrier, PT Timah Tbk carried out outreach to the surrounding community so that later the public would know about it. This socialization was held at the Tok Judah Building, Sawang Village, on Friday (06/10/2023).

In this socialization, PT Timah Tbk also provides an opportunity for the community to convey their input so that later they can support each other and work together.

Since 2017 PT Timah Tbk Kundur Production Unit has been installing abrasion barriers as a commitment and also the company's responsibility towards the environment. This has proven to be effective in reducing the impact of abrasion at locations where abrasion barriers have been installed.

Apart from that, the area around the abrasion barrier built by PT Timah Tbk has also become a new tourist attraction so that it can have an economic impact on the community.

Urban village head. 01 Sawang Village Rafani expressed his appreciation to PT Timah Tbk for paying attention to the environment around Sawang Beach with plans to install a 150-meter-long abrasion barrier.

"Of course, this will really help us in the local community to reduce the impact of abrasion which gets worse every year," he said.

According to him, in this area, apart from residential areas, there are also burials for the elders of the previous community.

"If we leave it alone, the impact of the abrasion will certainly erode the grave. Therefore, on behalf of the people of Rw. 01, we are very grateful for the abrasion barrier installation program from PT Timah Tbk," he said.

Likewise, the Chair of the Sawang Mardani Village Youth Organization, said that this activity was really needed and must be supported to reduce the impact of abrasion.

"I represent the Youth and also Karang Taruna Sawang Village, very happy and will support the abrasion barrier installation activities carried out by PT Timah Tbk," he said.

Likewise, the Head of Sawang Village, Azman, said that his party really supports this activity, because the impact of abrasion on Sawang Beach is obvious. So, the abrasion barrier installation program from PT Timah can certainly reduce the abrasion that occurs.

"We can see that in the field around Asmara Dewi Beach, Sawang Subdistrict, where a 400-meter long abrasion barrier was installed in 2020, currently there is very minimal abrasion. So we must support activities like this," he explained.

Meanwhile, Saiful representing the West Kundur Subdistrict Head expressed extraordinary appreciation for PT Timah Tbk's commitment to the environment.

"If no one cares about this abrasion, the community will be the victims. We all know that only PT Timah currently continues to carry out environmental conservation activities such as planting mangroves and installing abrasion barriers. For this reason, I invite the community to support this program and pray for "PT Timah must continue to progress and develop," he said.
