Senator Hassan Visits Goodwin Community Health Center in Somersworth

SOMERSWORTH - U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan visited Goodwin Community Health Center in Somersworth yesterday, where she toured the facility and discussed the importance of additional, reliable funding for Community Health Centers with representatives from the Bi-State Primary Care Association and Greater Seacoast Community Health, which Goodwin is part of. They also discussed the continued importance of the Affordable Care Act in providing affordable health care - including for addiction treatment - to Granite Staters.

"Community Health Centers provide critical physical and mental health care, including addiction care, and it was great to visit Goodwin Community Health Center and get an update on the work that they are doing for Granite Staters," said Senator Hassan. "I know how important the funding increase that we recently passed into law is to Goodwin Community Health, and I will keep working to extend reliable, strong funding for Community Health Centers."

The visit comes after Senator Hassan helped secure a 10 percent funding increase for the community health centers program through the end of the year in the bipartisan government funding package that passed earlier this month. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will determine exact allocations for each community health center.

Community health centers provide Granite Staters with vital health care services, including primary care, mental health care, and addiction treatment services. Ten community health centers - including Greater Seacoast Community Health, which operates Goodwin Community Health Center - receive federal funding in New Hampshire, and all of New Hampshire's health centers offer addiction treatment and mental health services on-site in addition to primary physical health care. Last year, Senator Hassan helped develop a bipartisan bill to extend funding for community health centers and boost primary care services. She also previously worked across the aisle to fund community health centers; her bipartisan bill to help end the practice of surprise medical billing helped to extend funding for community health centers for three years.
