Project to significantly improve healthcare services and facilities for the community

Construction works have officially commenced on the $411 million third stage of the St George Hospital Redevelopment, which will significantly improve healthcare services and facilities for the community.
Representatives from construction company BESIX Watpac joined NSW Premier Minns, Health Minister Ryan Park, Traditional Owners, as well as representatives from South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and Health Infrastructure for a sod turn event.
The event commenced with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by the local Bidjigal and Dharawal speaking people acknowledging the significance of the land and the importance of Indigenous culture.
Mark Baker, BESIX Watpac's CEO, said the team is delighted to formally commence works.
"BESIX Watpac is proud to have been entrusted with delivering this critical project for the local community, and I was thrilled to join the Premier, Health Minister, and Traditional Owners to celebrate the start of works," he said.
"Our extensive experience in delivering healthcare facilities enables us to understand the criticality of precision planning as well as the evolving needs of hospitals and their stakeholders. We are committed to maximising local job opportunities and working collaboratively with subcontractors, suppliers, and medical staff to minimise disruption to the public."
Project scope includes:
BESIX Watpac has successfully delivered several key projects for Health Infrastructure, including the award-winning Hornsby-Ku-ring-gai Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment, the Forensic Medicine & Coroners Court, and the Port Macquarie Base Hospital Expansion.
Mr Baker said the St George Hospital Stage 3 Redevelopment was also the first of a string of recent award wins for BESIX Watpac, with the company recently securing contracts to deliver hospital expansions in Queensland including Ipswich, Townsville, and Mackay Base Hospitals.
