TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Temporary Lane Reduction on North Claiborne Avenue from Saint Roch Avenue to Arts Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that the Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor Command Construction Industries, L.L.C. will close one of the Eastbound lanes of North Claiborne Avenue from Saint Roch Avenue to Arts Street to accommodate asphalt work. During this time, access will be limited to one lane (see map attached). All lanes will reopen by 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.

Signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.5M St. Roch DrainageUpgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

Once completed, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA-funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)'s Leveraged Gray/Green infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2024. Since May 2018, DPW has completed 186 projects at an estimated value of $765 million. Today, 55 roadwork projects are under construction at an estimated value of nearly $781 million.
