Frech wins marathon clash with Pigossi to put Poland ahead

Magdalena Frech outlasted Laura Pigossi to record a three-set victory put Poland 2-1 up against Brazil in the nations' Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Play-off tie in Bytom.

Frech was forced to come from behind against the ever-determined Pigossi, but eventually recorded a 4-6 6-3 7-6(4) victory in three hours and four minutes.

The result leaves Poland needing just one more victory to book their place in the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers.

Polish captain Dawid Celt has decided to bring in Katarzyna Kawa to replace Urszula Radwanska for the fourth match of the tie, while Brazil will stick with their original choice of Carolina Meligeni Rodrigues Alves. It is Kawa's first Billie Jean King Cup singles appearance - and just her second appearance in the competition at all, after contesting one doubles match in 2016.
