The 172-km long Queen Stage of the Dubai Tour was an interesting one, with a breakaway that was created at kilometer 0 and almost lasted until the finish line. The initial breakaway of 6 riders created a gap of maximum 7 minutes, before the peloton started to chase. In the final 30 kilometers of the stage, riders of Astana Pro Team took initiative with multiple attacks trying to close the gap and to create difficulties for the sprinters in the peloton.
Especially the Kazakh riders of the team were challenging the peloton, with attacks of Tleubayev, Fominykh and Bizhigitov. The only rider left of the initial breakaway group, Brandon McNulty, hold on until the final climb but the chasing group of favourites for day success caught him with only 200 meters to go. In the final uphill sprint, Magnus Cort finished just behind stage winner Sonny Colbrelli.
With the 2nd place at today's stage Magnus Cort climbs to the 2nd place in the GC (at 2' seconds of race leader Elia Viviani) and he is the new leader in the Young Rider Classification with one stage to go at this year's Dubai Tour, a 132-km long flat stage from Skydive Dubai to City Walk.
