Digging up your roots? The library can help you! Located under "research" and "history & genealogy" on our website, the Lewiston City Library has in-house access to Ancestry: Library Edition featuring a massive database of genealogical information and records from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom! You can search everything from:
military records,
newspapers,
the social security index
immigration information
tax records
pictures
wills
criminal records
message boards
By selecting "Get started" you can begin exploring your family's history by simply typing in their name and related fields you might know about! Choosing "Start searching" will offer you a broader, more generalized approach going by name and possible location of your ancestors. "New collections" will take you to the "Card catalog" which is added to regularly with the ability to filter by dates, types, locations, and record count. If you are new to the genealogy scene and looking for help check in with us and our volunteers from the Twin River Genealogical Society. Volunteers from the Twin River Genealogical Society are available Monday-Thursday 1 -3pm.
