Two New Brunswick Firefighters Promoted

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ
(April 26, 2024) - In a ceremony held on April 12 at City Hall, two firefighters were honored with promotions by Mayor Jim Cahill and Fire Director Robert Rawls. Theodore (Teddy) Wright Jr. was elevated to the rank of Captain; Oneill Martinez was promoted to Lieutenant.

Wright, a veteran member of the fire department since 2004, previously held the position of Lieutenant, a rank he attained in 2021. A graduate of East Brunswick High School, Wright also served in the United States Army Reserve from 1996 to 2002.

Beyond his duties, Wright is actively involved in various city organizations, including the Vulcan Pioneers of New Brunswick, Uptown Crime Watch, New Brunswick Wrestling Club, Town Clock CDC, New Brunswick Cultural Center, New Brunswick Rotary Club and the NAACP.

Martinez, who joined the fire department in 2014, brings experience and dedication to his new role as Lieutenant.

A Rutgers University grad with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Martinez is the grandson of Epifanio Colon, New Brunswick's first Hispanic firefighter (served 1965-1991). Martinez is also the Vice President of the Professional Latino Firefighters of Central New Jersey (PLFCNJ) and has contributed to humanitarian efforts, including traveling to Puerto Rico in 2018 to assist in rebuilding homes damaged by Hurricane Maria.

Additionally, Martinez volunteers during holiday events, such as the City's "Trunk or Treat" Halloween Celebration, Thanksgiving turkey distribution, and Christmas toy giveaways.
