Live Music, Free Entertainment, Family Fun Highlight Newton Fest

Join us the second weekend in June at Newton Fest! Residents and visitors can celebrate everything that makes Newton such a great community to live in. Newton Fest returns with a weekend of special events and family-friendly activities on June 7 & 8. Festivities will include live music, free entertainment and family fun held throughout the town and hosted by the City of Newton, community organizations and local businesses.

Heath Alan and The Deep Roots will take the stage at Maytag Bowl on Saturday, June 8, as the headliner of Newton Fest. Heath Alan (Pattschull) is an Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Des Moines, Iowa. Heath was nurtured and mentored by some of Iowa's greatest talents including Patrick Hazell, Joe Price, Roger Miller and Jonathan Schwabe. Heath was awarded the prestigious Liberace Music Grant (Yes - That Liberace!) and inducted into the Yamaha Musicians Hall of Fame before he was 18 years of age. Heath studied music at UNLV and The University of Northern Iowa with Frank Gagliardi (Louis Armstrong), Felix Vesculia and composer Jonathan Schwabe. Heath has been an active musician in the midwest for the past 20 years. Heath got his start with The Blue Band, has lead his own band for the past 20 years and is an active sideman and studio musician.

PRE-NEWTON FEST THURSDAY, JUNE 6

  • DMACC's Chalk the Walk is a free event at 5 p.m. in Maytag Park.
  • Summer Concert Series at Maytag Bowl featuring Blake Jack and South 35 starts at 7 p.m. at Maytag Park.

FRIDAY, JUNE 7

  • Newton Alumni Association's Class Window Displays in Downtown Newton.
  • Free Community Movie hosted by Capitol II Theatre.
  • Free Magic Show the Magician Jonathan May at 1 p.m. at the Newton Public Library.
  • Gezellig Brewing Company is celebrating five years in Newton! Head to the taproom at Legacy Plaza to celebrate this award winning microbrewery. Food trucks will be available at Legacy Plaza outside Gezellig Brewing Company starting on Friday and continuing through Saturday.
  • Newton Alumni Association's All Class Reunion will be held 6 p.m. to midnight at Legacy Plaza. The class reunion's cover charge is $5 per person. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and non-alcoholic drinks supports the Newton chapter of Dollars for Scholars.
  • Free community pool party is 7 to 9 p.m. in Maytag Pool. Sponsored by Advantage Credit Union, the pool party is a fun family night for all. Concession sales will be made available.
  • Free UV glow foam party is 9 to 10:30 p.m. at Maytag Park. Kids and adults will have fun jumping through the foam, scooping it up, hiding underneath it and having a blast. This year there will be even bigger foam cannons and even more fun for everyone!

SATURDAY, JUNE 8

  • Newton Main Street will host the Newton Main Street Car Show in downtown Newton. Join Newton Main Street on the downtown square for a car show! Park and registration takes place from 8 - 11 a.m. with judging taking place 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.; judging categories include: Best of Show, Best Engine, People's Choice, Longest Distance Traveled, Best Paint and Bob Provin Memorial. $15 pre-registration and $20 registration day of the show. First 100 registered receive a free dash plaque.
  • Newton Alumni Association's Jack Chadwick Golf Tournament will be at 8:30 a.m. in Westwood Golf Course. Call 641-792-3087 to reserve a spot. Teams of four are $300, otherwise the cost is $75 per person to be paid on the day of the event.
  • Newton YMCA Pickleball Tournament will be held at Aurora Park starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday
  • Morning Yoga At the Bowl will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Maytag Park. The session will be free to join.
  • Newton Alumni Brunch and Newton High School Hall of Fame Induction will be 9:30 a.m. at the high school. Cost for brunch is $15 and can be purchased online, at the reunion the day before or at the brunch.
  • Iowa Brewery Running Series Run for Beer 5K will be at 10 a.m. to noon at Gezellig Brewing Company. The fun run starts and ends at the taproom. Participants are encouraged to run walk or jog. Completing the run earns participants a free local craft beer at the finish line.
  • Gezellig Brewing Company is celebrating five years in Newton! Head to the taproom at Legacy Plaza to celebrate this award winning microbrewery. Food trucks will be available at Legacy Plaza outside Gezellig Brewing Company through Saturday.
  • Free Community Movie hosted by Capitol II Theatre.
  • Newton Fire Department and Newton Police Department's Safety Fest is a free event at 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Maytag Park.
  • Newton Fest Fun Zone featuring inflatables and laser tag is a free event at 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Maytag Park. There will also be food trucks set up at Maytag Park throughout the day.
  • The Newton Fest Concert featuring Heath Alan and the Deep Roots will take place at Maytag Bowl at 7 p.m. on Saturday night!
