Martin Weiss to leave Hubert Burda Media

Martin Weiss (56), Chairman of the Management Board of Hubert Burda Media since January 2022, will leave the company in January 2024. His management duties will be taken over by the existing four-member Executive Board; the overall management of the Group will remain in the hands of the Board of Directors of Hubert Burda Media SE.

Weiss joined Burda in summer 2015 to build up the Group's investment arm with Burda Principal Investments (BPI) and Corporate M&A. Through BPI, Hubert Burda Media invests in pioneering digital companies in Europe, the US and Asia and supports their growth strategies. BPI currently holds stakes in more than 25 companies, including AI company Aleph Alpha and unicorns such as marketplace Vinted and e-security company Nord VPN.

In 2017, Martin Weiss was appointed to the Management Board of Hubert Burda Media, where he assumed responsibility for the international publishing business in addition to the investment business. Under his aegis, Burda strengthened its international business through targeted acquisitions of digital media companies in the UK, Poland and the Czech Republic. In 2021, Martin Weiss took over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the listed company New Work SE, in which Burda holds a majority stake. At the beginning of 2022, he was appointed CEO of the Hubert Burda Media Group.

Martin Weiss is leaving Burda, since his views on the direction and steps for the further development of the Group no longer coincide with those of the Board of Directors.

Paul-Bernhard Kallen, Chairman of the Board of Directors: "I'd like to thank Martin Weiss for his highly committed and successful work for the Hubert Burda Media Group. He made a significant contribution to Hubert Burda Media, particularly by developing BPI into a successful investor which today supports young companies on their individual growth paths together with leading venture capital funds worldwide. The international business of Hubert Burda Media, which now has an important foothold in the UK following the acquisitions of Immediate Media, BBC good food and NutraCheck, has also been very successfully realigned and developed under his leadership. Martin Weiss is a global, strategic and successful entrepreneur. He has made a valuable contribution to the further development of the Burda platform and has built excellent teams".

Martin Weiss: "Founded more than 100 years ago, Burda has always faced up to the social and technological changes of its time ever since. I am very happy that working with our teams allowed me to set the tone here in recent years, and actively shape the transformation of Hubert Burda Media for a successful future."
