Sympathy to the Family, Friends and Colleagues of Dr. Rodney Carmack

JONESBORO - The university community today mourns the passing of Dr. Rodney F. Carmack, assistant professor of accounting, who died Tuesday after a brief illness.

Carmack joined the faculty in the Griffin College of Business at Arkansas State University in 2010. With credentials as a certified public accountant and a chartered global management accountant, his career path previously included several years employment as public accountant, plant controller, and as a financial analyst.

His teaching and research specialties included financial accounting, managerial accounting and cost accounting.

A native of Kennett, Mo., Carmack earned bachelor's degrees in communication studies and accounting and a master's degree in business administration at A-State. He completed his doctorate in business administration with an emphasis in accounting at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Carmack's professional affiliations included the American Accounting Association, the American institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants. He also has served as president of the Memphis chapter of The Planning Forum, as president of the Northeast Arkansas Existing Industries Association, and a board member of the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society.

Survivors include his wife, Jamie, children Drew and Tori, and several other family members. Visitation and services will be Friday morning. Details are in his obituary.
