Yesterday, a 42-year-old Janesville man appeared in Dane County Circuit Court on charges stemming from a May 7 shots fired incident. Larry A. Burrell was charged with 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Burrell was taken into custody by Fitchburg Police in Fitchburg on May 22 for violating his extended supervision. At the time of his arrest, Burrell was on extended supervision resulting from a conviction related to a 2019 arrest.As a convicted felon, Burrell is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Fitchburg Police responded to the shots fired incident in the 2000 block of Pike Drive early on May 7. Investigating officers learned an argument escalated into a physical fight, eventually ending in gunshots.

The Fitchburg Police Department appreciates the tips and information it received from multiple community members following this incident.

Around 1:15 a.m. this morning, Fitchburg officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 2000 block of Pike Drive. Multiple callers reported an argument and a physical fight that escalated to gunshots.

Responding officers found five shell casings in the area where the fight had occurred. No injuries were reported, and no property damage was discovered.
