Thanks to Nunn’s Anti-Abortion Agenda, There’s Yet Another SCOTUS Attack on Reproductive Freedom

Today the Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments about the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), a law that requires doctors to provide care to stabilize patients in life-threatening circumstances. The court is considering whether Idaho's abortion ban overrules EMTALA, opening doctors to criminal charges if they perform an emergency abortion to protect the health and life of the woman.

Let's be clear: Zach Nunn's aggressive and dangerous anti-abortion agenda got us to this point.

Nunn has repeatedly voted to take away women's access to reproductive care, including blocking consideration of the Women's Health Protection Act - legislation that would have codified Roe and guaranteed the very same protections now under threat in today's Supreme Court arguments.

Nunn's budget even calls for passage of the Life at Conception Act, a nationwide abortion ban without exceptions for rape, incest, or the woman's life. In the state legislature, Nunn voted for "the most restrictive abortion ban in the nation" and on the campaign trail last cycle, Nunn raised his hand in support of banning abortion with no exceptions.

DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
"Because of Zach Nunn's agenda, reproductive freedom is under threat in Iowa and across this country. Today's case before the Supreme Court is a tragic reminder of the relentless lengths anti-freedom extremists will go to ban abortion, even going so far as to deny women life-saving medical care. Despite efforts to mislead Iowans on his record, Nunn has been at the center of the far-right crusade to ban abortion nationwide."
