URL participates in the 5th International Rectors' Meeting organised by Universia

Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Seven hundred rectors from 14 countries from around the world met in the city of Valencia for the 5th International Rectors' Meeting organised by Universia.

Under the title of "University and Society", the meeting focused on analysing the challenges facing higher education. Specifically, there was a debate on the great challenge for universities to lead and collaborate in the technological and social transformations that must facilitate social progress. It is becoming increasingly necessary to strengthen the relationships and bridges between the university and society.

During the meeting, the rector of the URL, Josep A. Rom, had the opportunity to exchange views with some of the rectors of the international alliance SACRU, of which the University is a member. Rom met with Rector Isabel Capeloa Gil of the Portuguese Catholic University, Rector Ignacio Sánchez Díaz of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and Rector Anderson Antonio Pedroso, S.J. of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. The 4 rectors took advantage of the meeting to share the good results of the Network and to reaffirm the great work that is being done to foster global cooperation among research-intensive Catholic universities with the aim of advancing knowledge and higher education for the common good.

As CRUE reports on its website, the conclusions of this International Meeting of Rectors "will be set out in the Valencia Declaration, which will reflect the commitment of the rectors so that the university advances, from various specific lines of action, in its aim to continue contributing to the progress of society".
