The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that its previously revamped MTA Service Alerts system now includes alerts for Bridges and Tunnels across all nine facilities. MTA Service Alerts was developed to provide customers with timely, personalized updates on service impacting train, subway, or bus commutes including delays, reroutes, and cancellations, and can now also provide service updates on current road conditions and operations across the MTA's bridges and tunnels. Since its start in July 2023, 48.3 million emails and 49.9 texts have been sent.

MTA Service Alerts provides customers with maximum control over when and how to receive service updates. Customers can choose the day of the week and time periods for alerts, and whether to receive messages via SMS or email. Alerts are managed through a subscription center, where customers can also sign up for MTA newsletters such as the popular MTA Weekender, a weekly newsletter sent every Friday to inform customers of weekend service changes throughout the transit system.

"We're pleased to be joining our MTA partners in the new MTA alerts system to ensure that motorists can travel confidently with the most current information that may impact their journeys," said MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Cathy Sheridan. "It allows drivers to learn of relevant traffic conditions and receive timely updates on planned work that may require lane closures."

MTA Service Alerts deliver impactful updates in fewer messages, which allows customers to sign up for tight windows tailored to when they travel. Email alerts are formatted similarly to alerts customers already see on the website and in-system screens, with route bullets for impacted subway lines. Text alerts are issued from a new dedicated short code, 511-682 reserved exclusively for the MTA.
