WASHINGTON, D.C. -Equality California, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, and Silver State Equality, Nevada's statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights advocacy nonprofit, announced on Thursday the endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris - the incumbent President and Vice President - for the 2024 Presidential Election. Equality California Executive Director Tony Hoang and Silver State Equality State Director André Wade offered the following statement:

"Since their first days in office, the Biden-Harris Administration has worked to uplift and defend the LGBTQ+ community, making bold strides toward full, lived equality and in the process becoming one of the most pro-equality Presidential administrations in the history of our country.

Throughout their tenure, President Biden and Vice President Harris have continued to push forward a proactive agenda that opens doors and levels the playing field for all LGBTQ+ Americans, as well as defend against attacks from far-right extremists seeking to roll back our hard-fought wins. Among their many achievements, the administration has:

• Continued to vociferously defend the right to abortion and reproductive healthcare in the wake of the devastating 2022 Dobbs Supreme Court decision - calling on Congress to codify abortion protections into law, issuing Executive Orders strengthening access to contraception, and defending access to safe and legal medication abortion in court.

• Issued executive orders enforcing key provisions of the Bostock Supreme Court decision, ending the ban on transgender military service, expanding mental health resources for LGBTQ+ youth, and ensuring LGBTQ+ students' rights under Title IX.

• Tapped openly LGBTQ+ officials to serve in the Cabinet, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Assistant Secretary for Health Dr. Rachel Levine - the first-ever openly transgender official confirmed by the Senate. President Biden also nominated Chantale Wong to serve as U.S. Director of the Asian Development Bank in 2021; following her confirmation in February 2022, she became the first out lesbian US Ambassador in history.

• Supported legislation to improve the lives of all LGBTQ+ Americans, including the Respect for Marriage Act, which President Biden signed into law in December 2022.

• Nominated 167 pro-equality federal judges, including an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, 39 judges for the United States Courts of Appeals, and 127 judges for United States District Courts.

• Taken action to defend the rights of transgender youth - issuing statements of interest in ongoing litigation, making public statements condemning the actions of discriminatory state legislatures, and specifically calling for the protection of transgender youth in the State of the Union address.

At a time of unprecedented anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, policies, and hate crimes directed at our community it is more important now than ever before to have strong champions for LGBTQ+ equality in the White House. President Biden and Vice President Harris have been those champions and during their time in office have proven themselves to be key allies in our fight for full, lived LGBTQ+ equality. We are proud to offer our organizations' respective endorsements and work to ensure they are re-elected in 2024."
