Garland a Best City for Job Seekers Over Age 50

Garland was named among the nation's 50 Best Cities for Job Seekers Over 50 in a study released April 19 by personal finance website GoBanking.com.

To compile the list from the nation's most populous 185 cities, the unemployment rate for ages 45 and older was considered. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reflects that the average duration of unemployment is typically two weeks longer for people ages 55 to 64 than for people ages 35 to 44. Other factors in the study included median household income, overall cost of living and the average cost of expenditures.

Garland was listed 11th overall. Its unemployment ratings were cited as 2.6% for ages 45 to 54, 2.4% for ages 55 to 59, 4.2% for ages 60 to 64 and 3.6% for ages 65 to 74. Six other Texas cities made the top 50.
