Co-chairmanship of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network established at United Nations’ level

In 2023, Romania and the Unites States of America will exert co-chairmanship of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network (WPS -FPN).

Ministry of National Defence, national coordinator of the implementation of Women, Peace and Security Agenda, ensures the liaison with the international organizations and manages the activities of the national institutions with responsibilities in the field, through the National Implementation Group of the National Strategy and National Action Plan made up of representatives of : Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Agency for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men, the Romanian Intelligence Service, Special Telecommunications Service, Guard and Protection Service and National Administration of Penitentiaries.

Conferences, seminaries, working groups and a series of high-level events will be organized in 2023 both in Romania and the Unites States of America, our country's efforts being focused on the itemization of the Network Functioning Guide and the creation of a set of recommendations with respect of the National Focal Points' functions. Also, several virtual working sessions will be organized on the specific topics of the field.

The National Focal Points Network was established in 2016, at the initiative of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a view of consolidating the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda at the UN member states' level by sharing good practices and improving the coordination of the funding and assistance programs. Currently, the network has 95 members and functions under UN guidance, the UN WOMEN ensuring the secretariat works.
