Cable Median Barrier Project Continues with Night Work on Multiple Routes in South Central PA

Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a contractor for a cable median barrier project will begin installing guide rail at night on multiple routes in south central Pennsylvania.
This project includes the installation of approximately 29 miles of high-tension cable barrier in the median of Interstate 81 in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Lebanon counties, Route 30 in Lancaster and York counties, and Route 222 in Lancaster County.
Weather permitting, night work will begin the night of Monday, May 6, and will continue from 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM Monday through Thursday nights for approximately one month.
The contractor will begin on northbound Interstate 81 between Mile Marker 1 and Mile Marker 6 in Franklin County. There will be a left lane and left shoulder closures. The contractor will continue with work on Interstate 81 in Cumberland and Lebanon counties, Route 30 in Lancaster and York counties, and Route 222 in Lancaster County.
Work currently is being performed to install cable median barrier during the day with left shoulder closures, as needed.
Work last year included roadway borings and testing for high-tension cable barrier end anchor terminals.
Cable median barriers are life-saving traffic devices for use in existing medians to prevent cross-over crashes. They are one of the most-effective safety measures deployed to protect motorists on highways.
All work is expected to be completed by the May of 2025.
Green Acres Contracting Co., Inc., is the contractor on this $5,213,525 project.
