Pursuit Of Stolen Kia Leads To Arrest During Special Initiative Monday

MNPD detectives working the special initiative to combat car theft and related crimes Monday evening arrested Kenneth Wilson, 59, in a stolen Kia Forte after a pursuit throughout Davidson County.

Detectives observed Wilson driving the Forte in East Nashville when it parked in Shelby Park. As they attempted to block the vehicle in, Wilson rammed into two police cars in order to flee.

A short distance later, Wilson briefly stopped to let out his passenger, Jerrica Smith, 42, who was later charged with joyriding.

With assistance from MNPD Aviation, the Forte was followed until detectives could deploy spike strips, flattening most of the vehicle's tires. However, Wilson continued driving recklessly into oncoming lanes and on public sidewalks to avoid officers.

The Forte also drove around a school bus at North 9th and Mansfield Streets as it was unloading several children. Luckily, the Forte did not strike any students.

The Forte came to a stop on N. Main Street in Goodlettsville. Wilson was taken into custody without further incident. Wilson was driving on a revoked license at the time.

Cocaine was recovered from the Forte.

Wilson was booked on 11 charges, including vehicle theft, evading arrest, assault of an officer, three counts of reckless driving and two counts of vandalism of government property. He is currently jailed in lieu of $80,500 bond.
