'It is exciting to have our Bison golf short game area completed. We can now simulate chipping and putting in a way that really benefits our student-athletes,' men's and women's golf head coaches and said. 'We would like to thank our athletic administration and President Bresciani for all of the support in bringing this facility to the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.'
The facility includes 2,500 square-feet of sand-infilled putting and chipping turf. The turf is contoured with slopes to simulate realistic on-course scenarios and features 12 holes spread over a variety of flat and sloped conditions.
'The completion of our new short game facility is really exciting. With the addition of this facility and our indoor practice bubble, we now have everything we need to not only maintain, but enhance our players' golf games during the winter months right here on campus,' Johnson said. 'We've been practicing for a month without seeing a golf course, and I feel like our players are all in mid-season form.'
The chipping areas have both 3/8 inch fairway turf and one-inch rough to simulate all types of conditions, including more difficult lies around the greens.
The facility also features a student-athlete lounge and study area.
The SYNLawn manufactured turf was installed by Accelerated Green Works, Inc. of West Fargo, and Signarama of Fargo installed the wall art in the facility.
The NDSU women's golf team opens its spring schedule Feb. 12-13 at the Texas State Invitational, while the Bison men begin their spring slate Feb. 17-18 at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor.
