Peters Commemorates Renaming of Detroit Grand River Post Office to “Rosa Louise McCauley Parks Post Office”

DETROIT, MI - U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), U.S. Postal Service District Manager Richard Moreton, and the Rosa Parks Family Foundation held a dedication ceremony to rename the Grand River Post Office in Detroit the "Rosa Louise McCauley Parks Post Office." Members of Rosa Parks' family, including her niece Rhea McCauley, also attended and participated in the event.

In the House of Representatives, Tlaib led the legislation to rename the Post Office building located at 4744 Grand River Avenue, Detroit, Michigan after Rosa Parks, mother of the civil rights movement. Peters helped pass this legislation in the Senate. In December, the bill was signed into law. The building is located just a block away from Rosa Parks Boulevard and located near her home when she lived in Detroit.

"Rosa Parks' story is synonymous with the fight for racial equality in America and will forever symbolize this city's strength and resilience," said Senator Peters. "I was proud to help pass the legislation in the Senate to rename this building in her honor, and I'm grateful that it will continue to serve the community she called home while carrying on her legacy for future generations."

In addition to being a civil rights leader known across the world, Rosa Parks is especially adored in Detroit where she lived for nearly 50 years and worked.
