Parents across Derbyshire find out about their child's infant, primary or junior school place for September

Published: 16 April 2024

We made offers of infant, primary and junior school places to approximately 10,300 children across Derbyshire today (Tuesday 16 April 2024).

Of those parents who applied for a reception place by the closing date, 96.1% were offered their first preference school. Overall, of those who applied by the closing date, 98.7% were offered a place at one of their 3 preferred schools.

And of those who applied for a junior place by the deadline, 96.5% were offered a place at their first-preference school and 97.5% were offered a place at one of their 3 preferred schools.

Our Cabinet Member for Education Councillor Alex Dale said:

"I'd like to thank everyone who applied for their child's place on time and to our school admissions and transport team for processing more than 10,850 applications.

"We're very pleased to be able to offer the first preference school to so many parents across Derbyshire, for children starting school during the 2024-2025 school year for the first time as well as those transferring to junior school this September.

"If you still haven't applied for your child's place, please get in touch with our school admissions and transport team as soon as possible."

The small number of parents who have not been offered a place at their preferred school have the right of appeal to an independent panel.

Alternatively, parents can get information from our school admissions and transport team by calling 01629 537479.

This year the vast majority of parents in Derbyshire applied for their child's primary school place online.

Parents who applied online should have received an email about their child's place on Tuesday 16 April 2024.

We posted letters second class on the same day, Tuesday 16 April 2024, to parents who used the telephone application service or completed a paper form.

Anyone who hasn't already made an application should do so urgently by using our late application facility.

If parents cannot apply online, they should contact our school admissions and transport team for advice on 01629 537479.
