Culture Secretary Alejandra Frausto meets in Rome with Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano

Mexican Culture Secretary Alejandra Frausto met today with Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano in Rome, accompanied by Mexico's ambassador in Italy, Carlos García de Alba.

Secretary Frausto conveyed to Minister Sangiuliano the greetings of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and underscored the historical ties that unite Mexico and Italy, dating back more than 500 years.

The two officials highlighted the upcoming celebration in 2024 of 150 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Italy, two global cultural powers. They discussed the extensive agenda of activities that is being put together for the commemoration, in which culture and art will play a key role.

"We will celebrate our ties, which are stronger than ever. The agenda will showcase the best examples of the creative freedom that exists in Mexico: the most outstanding of its contemporary art and, at the same time, the millennial past of our pre-Hispanic cultures," said Secretary Frausto.

She commended the tradition of collaborating with the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Property and Italian authorities for the return to Mexico of pieces that are part of our identity and historical heritage.

"I am very happy to meet with Secretary Frausto in Rome," said Minister Sangiuliano. "Mexico and Italy are heirs to ancient civilizations, and today share strong cultural and artistic ties. Culture and art are key tools for promoting friendship and dialogue between our two nations."
