Welcome Remarks by Mr. Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry Of Transport & Ministry Of Sustainability And The Environment, at SMF City Cycle 2024

13 Apr 2024Speeches

SMF Chairman Mr. Hor Weng Yew,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

1. Good morning. I am delighted to be here with all of you this morning.

2. The SMF City Cycle marks SMF's 20 years of building strong public-private partnerships. As Weng Yew mentioned earlier, it brings together diverse stakeholders across Maritime Singapore to connect and to contribute to a larger cause.

3. I am pleased to announce that a total of $542,000 dollars has been raised through this event to sponsor more MaritimeONE scholarships and bursaries. This will attract more students with an interest in the maritime sector to pursue their aspirations and provide them with the opportunities to do so.

4. I thank all the companies and the unions for your generous support for the next generation of maritime talent.

5. To the MaritimeONE scholars here, you represent the future of the industry. Just as you have benefitted from the opportunities given to you through the scholarship, please pay it forward - share your passion for and interest in the maritime sector with others; create opportunities and help your peers in whatever ways you can. Some day, many of you will be leaders in the maritime industry. When that time comes, please continue to support MaritimeONE programs so that future generations will also be able to access the same opportunities you have received.

6. Once again, I would like to thank our partners across Maritime Singapore who share a common cause and conviction to grow a pipeline of talent for the sector, and to SMF for bringing us all together. I look forward to joining you to cycle, and to have breakfast together afterwards.
