OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN TO MALAYSIA

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will undertake an official visit to Malaysia on 4 and 5 February 2025. This is President Mirziyoyev's first visit to Malaysia since assuming the post in December 2016. He will be accompanied by seven Cabinet ministers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov and other senior government officials.

President Mirziyoyev will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at Perdana Putra Complex, Putrajaya, on 5 February 2025, followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. During the meeting, both leaders are expected to review the progress of Malaysia-Uzbekistan bilateral relations following the Prime Minister's official visit to Uzbekistan in May 2024, particularly in trade and investment, the Halal industry, education, connectivity, and tourism. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. A Joint Statement will be issued at the conclusion of the meeting.

Following the bilateral meeting, the leaders will witness the exchange of three Memorandum of Understanding (MoU); : an MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Health, an MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Forensic Sciences, and an MoU in the Field of Culture. Additionally, four Exchanges of Notes (EoN) will be signed in the areas of Higher Education, Diplomatic Training, Halal, and Customs. The Prime Minister will also host an official luncheon at Seri Perdana Complex in honour of President Mirziyoyev.

Both leaders will also attend the Malaysia-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur. The forum will provide an opportunity to explore further opportunities for economic collaboration and strengthen business ties between the business communities of the two countries. Later that evening, both leaders will attend a dinner hosted by PETRONAS.

In 2024, Malaysia's total trade with Uzbekistan slightly decreased by 13.2 per cent to RM369.8 million (USD80.9 million) from RM426.1 million (USD94 million) in 2023. The trade balance is in Malaysia's favour at RM360.3 million (USD78.9 million).

In 2024, Uzbekistan remains Malaysia's second largest trading partner among the Central Asian countries.
