Says overregulation, federal mandates are not the answer for the future of American energy

Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, Congressman Fred Keller (PA-12) was invited to participate in the House Energy and Commerce Committee's forum, 'Mounting Costs: The Real Harm of the Biden Administration's Environmental Agenda on the American People and the Economy,' to discuss how President Biden's radical energy agenda would harm communities across Pennsylvania.

Coinciding with the forum, the Associated Press reported that impact fee revenue from Pennsylvania gas wells dropped to $146 million in 2020, down $54 million from 2019, due to reduced drilling and diminished prices during the pandemic.

During his testimony, Keller highlighted the importance of impact fees to Pennsylvania's economy and energy sector:

'In Pennsylvania, impact fees collected from the oil and gas industry are an essential tool that allows local and state governments to fund infrastructure projects, emergency preparedness and response, environmental protection, social services, records management and tax reduction,' Keller said. 'In the counties I represent, nearly $14 million in impact fees were levied and reinvested into local communities in 2020 alone.'

Keller went on to outline why President Biden's energy policy is the wrong approach for reclaiming American energy independence:

'Overregulation and federal mandates that ignore facts and instead heap high costs on citizens are not the answer to the future of American energy,' Keller said. 'We should instead be focused on exploring public-private partnerships and safeguarding existing infrastructure as the energy sector continues to fuel American jobs, manufacturing, and the economy.'
