On September 7, 2024, at approximately 10:31 a.m., State Police responded to a two-car, serious personal injury crash involving a marked State Police patrol vehicle on State Route 11 near the Walmart in the town of Potsdam.
The preliminary investigation determined that Trooper Matthew Baker was traveling eastbound on State Route 11 with emergency lights and siren activated responding to a call for a physical domestic dispute.
As Trooper Baker approached the intersection near the Walmart, the light at the intersection turned red. He then struck a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, which was pulling out of the Walmart onto Route 11.
Trooper Baker immediately rendered emergency medical aid to the occupants of the Equinox.
The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, Megan L. McAnulty, 25, of Norwood, NY, was airlifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The front passenger, Wyatt Parker, 28, of Mannsville, NY, was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and later transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Two passengers in the rear of the vehicle were transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital with minor injuries.
Trooper Baker was also treated for minor injuries at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.
State Police were also assisted by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Potsdam Police Department, Potsdam Fire and Rescue, the West Potsdam Fire Department, Parishville Rescue, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
